Kintamani village has many things to offer; hot spring, view of the biggest lake in Bali, hiking Mount Batur, the mystical Trunyan Village, and more. Exploring this village is interesting and will be fun too.
The location of the village on 1500 meters above the sea level makes the temperature in Kintamani cooler compared to other places in Bali. well, if you come here, warm clothes are recommended.
In Indonesia, Kintamani is famous for its orange, coffee, and Kintamani’s native dog. You can see orange and coffee plantations everywhere in Kintamani.
Here is my list of things that you can do and also things that you can see in Kintamani Village.
Things to do in Kintamani Village
Hiking
There are two mountains in Kintamani; Mount Batur and Mount Abang. Both mountains are accessible to hike.
Mount Batur has the best view of sunrise, but there is a tendency that it is a must to have a guide to hike this mountain, if you decide not to have one, people at the entrance will not allow you to hike.
To hike Mount Batur takes you 1 ½ – 2 hours to reach the top of the mountain, with some of the track is sandy and rocky.
Mount Abang is quite different, despite the sunrise view not as jaw-dropping as Mount Batur, but to hike this mountain is easier. Here at this mountain, you do not need to have a guide, you can hike it by yourself, but still, you need to carefully take good care of yourself.
Camping
There are many spots for camping, but you have to go to the east side of the lake. And you also can camp on Mount Batur.
To camp on Mount Batur you have to ask for permission and pay for the entrance as well. One thing that you have to know if you want to camp on Mount Batur is you have to bring a lot of water because there is no water source up there on the mountain.
Cycling
Cycling is also a good thing to do in Kintamani especially with the fresh air and the cool temperature. You can start from the village and cycle down to the town of Ubud. There are many tracks that you can use; you can use the main road or go across the villager plantation.
Things to see in Kintamani Village
Sunrise on Mount Batur
If you are looking for the best spot to watch the sunrise then Mount Batur is the place. Even though you have to hike 1 ½ hours through sandy and rocky tracks, but it is worth it.
You can start hiking at 3/3.30 AM so you will arrive on the top of the mountain at 5/5.30 AM. Sometimes it is quite up there but also can be crowded, depending on what day that you want to go there.
Bring warm clothes and proper hiking shoes if you decide to go, and use the recommended track for your safety.
Batur Lake
Batur lake is the biggest lake in Bali. The view is awesome. The recommended spots to see it are from top of mount Batur or mount Abang, but if you don’t really want to hike, you can enjoy seeing it from the Goepark site at the side of Kintamani’s road.
Batur Temple
Batur Temple or also called Pura Ulun Danu Batur Temple is the second most important temple after the mother temple of Besakih.
The temple was built in 1926 dedicated to Dewi Batari Ulun Danu, goddess of lakes and rivers.
Coffee Plantation
Have you tasted the famous Luwak Coffee yet? If you haven’t, well along the way from Ubud to Kintamani will find many coffee plantations that are accessible for you to stop and enjoy the coffee.
At that place you can also see the making of coffee from the bean into the powder.
Hot-spring
If you drive down through Mount Batur to the eastern side, you will find spots for natural hot-springs. Good place for relaxing after hiking Mount Batur.
Trunyan Village
Trunyan Village is a mystical village, one of Bali Aga’s villages located on shore of Lake Batur.
The mystical side of this place is its peculiar treatment of dead bodies, in which they are placed openly on the ground under a tree, simply covered with cloth and bamboo canopies, and left to decompose. And the tree is said to remove the putrid smell of the corpses.
